This summer, I am always looking for new ways to incorporate produce into my cooking. I love the simplicity of the most basic cooking method. It is easy to whip up a bowl of fresh basil over pasta and I find myself reaching for it over and over again. Sometimes I even break out the big pots of basil to get it for myself when I go to the farmers market or the grocery store.
Well, in a perfect world, basil would be one of those things that you would buy in bulk to use in your cooking. What we’re talking about is basil that you would buy in a bottle or a jar. It’s a great addition to any dish and an easy way to make a fresh, strong taste shine.
I think most people who are really into basil have at least one bottle or jar of it stored within arm’s reach. I actually prefer the taste of the fresh version, but it’s the dried version I reach for when I’m in doubt. We tend to go for the fresh version if we don’t have that one bottle or jar of basil handy.
If you’re a basil fan, buy a bunch of basil and get ready to use it fresh. I know people who are really into basil and they have a huge stash of dried basil in the refrigerator. They would rather store it in the fridge or a bowl of water than in a jar. I prefer to use it fresh, but its always good to have on hand for a recipe.
